I'd take a Volvo 5 cylinder over a Ford engine any given day.

And I take a Volvo 4 cylinder over a Volvo 5 cylinder. The engine I have is the B4204T11.

Fair enough, tankfully it isn't one of those fitted.
thankfully? that in the focus was a monster (and liked to steer you off the road, but still)

Yes as it it had bad fuel economy and as a result more than twice the road tax compared to the replacement.

it also made brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee sounds which more than outweighs that - you aren't buying a 2.5l if you're thinking about tax and economy

I love Volvo's design language, it's just too bad they're so goddamn expensive and the nicely optioned ones fetch a pretty penny on the used market.
Manual T5 C30? Expensive or high mileage.
Any of the super sedans? Expennsssive or high mileage.
Any newer Polestar badged sedans? Expeennnnssiiivvveee.

    Makes me sad

The V40 is extraordinary ugly (imho and I am in no way claiming that my CX5 is any better) but I can imagine it being fun as hell with that engine.

It is, I have not had this much fun driving since the TVR I had back in 2003.

0-60 in 5.8s with automatic gearbox as well as the AWD to make the corners way less scary than the TVR is a great combination.

and less dramatic, it has to be said.
    Viking, n.:
    1. Daring Scandinavian seafarers, explorers, adventurers, entrepreneurs world-famous for their aggressive, nautical import business, highly leveraged takeovers and blue eyes.
    2. Bloodthirsty sea pirates who ravaged northern Europe beginning in the 9th century.

Hagar's note: The first definition is much preferred; the second is used only by malcontents, the envious, and disgruntled owners of waterfront property.

Yeah, old Volvos are fine since they are so boxy. The new ones V90 2016->, V60 2018-> etc are so nice that I almost bought one. The stuff between new and the old-school look horrible.

I've got a 2011 Audi A3, for the past few months I've had intermitent issues with the radio (it keeps bombing out) took it for a service/MOT a few weeks ago, everything was fine but they said I needed a new battery... 'The battery is on it's way out and the car is prioritising functions, ie no start/stop, radio etc...'
Replaced the battery with a new one. Still don't have any radio function and now I have to hold down the window lower button to lower my window... Do I just have to go for a 'long drive' for my car to realise it's got a new, good battery?

No. If they replaced it with an OEM or equivalent it shouldn't matter.
If they replaced it with a smaller/larger battery, there's supposed to be an adaption process run by the tech.

Honestly it sounds like water intrusion into the BCM and/or a dodgy door harness.
Does the car have a sunroof? Has it rained a bunch?
Check your carpet under the drivers seat and see if it's soaked.

If that's the case, the radio could shorted. The older RNS/RCD units like to fail, but are super common to from the scrapper.

Well, covid brought me back to eve and the traps therein.
Although, things are returning back to "normal" so my eve-time has disappeared once more.

I still lurk the failheap tho :P

I replaced the battery myself, it was purchased new.

When I had a go at taking everything out there was a clamp that required a long socket wrench extension to take the battery out so I reconnected the old battery and drove down to a mate's house to borrow his. When I started the car to head off the radio came to life for ~5 seconds. Replaced battery and that capability is lost along with the window uppy and downy capability.

    blew a fuse?
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

Just to reiterate, you can operate the windows it's just the comfort function missing (short press to fully close / open)?

I'd maybe think so if the radio hadn't sprung to life after reconnecting the old battery and I'd regained stop/start capability and hadn't lost window uppy/downy capability. Will have a look at fuses tomorrow. Problem is that there's one on the back of the radio that needs a special tool to get to.
