Guns make the news, science doesn't.
I don't know, probably not for me.
It looks like it has no environment to explore and discover.
I'm waiting for some youtube lets plays, to see if there is any story at all, or any point to the environment beyond just being an arena to battle in.
I'm still waiting for Bloodborne on PC
Yes, unfortunately AC 6 is just mission based and the game itself doesn't have a difficulty setting either. You can always replay missions in that search for the S-rank for each of them - and it isn't easy. My replay of the first mission netted me a flat D rank and I'm unsure what to do to ascend. The gameplay is so good though. Movement is indeed more deliberate. In addition to this there are no IFs when dodging and the skill ceiling seems to be really high up there. To me personally it feels like Starship Troopers (the book). Customizability is also through the roof, the logo editor is mindblowing but not only that but the mech itself - you can have several builds with entirely different gameplay -> and conversely different approaches to a certain level.
Overall it feels really old school and modern at the same time, I wouldn't be shocked if the next one is going to be open world (or one of the next ones, at least).
The first level boss is something else as well. Usually FromSoft put a really hard boss in the beginning but make it optional. This is not it, if you fail and quit the game in frustration you'll have to replay the whole first mission (although there's a bloody checkpoint right before the boss). So you can retry the boss if you don't close the game. Took me a fair amount of tries but got gud and killed it eventually but I can see this as a bit of gatekeeping - the following missions are not nearly as hard as that damn chopper.

So I am through to chapter three and I feel like I have a good handle on what's what.
The game is beautifully detailed. The frame designs are beautiful, the little details like the rcs thrusters and just the stunning kinematics of how the parts move /chef kiss. Mech building is solid as always. They have toned it down a bit from previous games, like the removal of the weighting parts to balance your weight distribution, but IMO it isn't missed, that was always some turbo nerd shit. Decal editor is wildly good, especially with the pinned steam browser overlay trick.
I like that you can now utilize your shoulder mounts at any time; previous games you swapped between hand and shoulders weapons. I think this helps keep the pace up in battle, so it doesn't feel much slower than it's predecessors.
Boosting feels quite different; your regular boost speed feels a bit faster, but they have really toned down overboost, the OB recharge duration is much slower than in the past. I think this is to give the Assault boost more utility in controlling range & getting behind foes, where you used to be able to just rapidly OB past them. Not a bad change per se, just different.
My main critique/gripe is that the game has become much more stunlock/stagger heavy than its predecessors. Boss battles pretty much revolve around you getting an ACS overload on the baddie & unloading on him in a sensitive place, rinse & repeat. They have also leaned heavily into input reading. Sometime its to great effect, watching Balteus' flails track you as you dodge around is awesome. Sometimes its just frustrating bullshit as you get nailed by undodgable shots. Last complaint is there is no long range in this game. In previous entries it was actually a viable strat to load up with sniper rifles & artilleries and just wreck shit from afar. In this one, lock range is neutered and they don't even have a long range rifle.
That said I am having an absolute blast.

To be fair, I'm glad they took the time to make this game.
It sends a signal that they won't be steered only by greed and do soulslikes for eternity.
It's a healthy move for the studio and a great game for AC fans.
Banging against the NG+ Redguns mission. Game is fun as all hell. Gave the chainsaw a whirl for fun.
