Terra Invicta - by the XCOM 1/2 The Long War makers

    https://store.steampowered.com/app/1...Terra_Invicta/

The dudes that made the Long War mods for XCOM 1 & 2 made a game dev. studio and this is their first game.
Aliens are coming and you are defending or helping. Game is entirely on the Geoscape.
Looks to be an epic 4x game.

Why is it called earth, when it is mostly water???

Demo is fucking amazing already. Only stopped it to get into the full game without burning out on it.

Looking forward to grind this next week.

To clarify, is it in Early access now? Or does Early Access start next week?

Because I don't like to play Early access games, I prefer to wait for the finished thing. (but considering their development approach for Long War, i might have to break that habit this time )

Early access release on the 26th.
Game is feature complete. Balancing and such to go.

I'm on PerunGaminingAU Ep 3 atm.
This games looks very advanced, will probably take months to understand.

Watch his demo playthrough, he explains more there. Current episodes assume you know what's happening.

Tried the demo. Found it terribly dull repetitive button clicking but nothing really happening. Am I missing something?

Casually chipping in to recommend getting it on GOG.com DRM free if you like the game.

Game supports mods, and I find that to be best managed via Steam.

    Enjoying the game greatly.

They need to make sure your starting Counsellors got the required skills to take over.
On my first non-tutorial game I had to start new game many times to get the required skill sets.

It took me forever to figure out, if you have a mission type selected for a Counsellor selected which can't be performed in the country, he won't move.
No error messages or sounds giving a hint. Didn't understand this till I started using the drop-down menu for assignment locations.

I think you can always redeem the key for use on Steam so if that's your poison you're covered.

Apparently you can't, but there was a service from GOG that would get you the game DRM free by connecting your Steam account iirc (with the publisher/dev blessing).

I've just gotten started, but there was this instant feeling of "fuck, I am going to spend a lot of time with this game". Hello aliens, goodbye social life.

There are no plans for steam workshop integration. Both versions will have mods installed by the way of unzip into correct folder.

Maybe they will add it in future.

Game seems good so far, but kind of super boring too. Lot of speed 5, waiting for stuff to happen. And the stuff is usually the Servants or Initiative coming and flipping my mid-tier expansion countries, so I just spend time flipping them back & forth. Saving up boost for that first sweet lunar mine.

The further you go the more meaningful stuff keeps hapening. Once you have few places in space to babysit, fleets to move, combat alien incursions, combat alien flora and fauna on earth, deal with earth geopolitics...You get the picture.

It does start slow but that's to be expected. It is done by Long War devs after all. This is a niche title for niche audience. Think Aurora but less autism or Distant Worlds. I think they will tweak tempo during ea, as it goes from one extreme to the other.
