nevar forget
The real subversion is that its an Unseen mech. Did the board pay Harmony Gold's ransom money?
Finally got around to buying and playing this. Better controls than MW2 by far, but dang this is hard. No difficulty slider?

Difficulty is based on the missions rating. Some of the more comprehensive Mods will give you some sliders to tweak damage out put and what not.
If you just want to keep it vanilla, i would suggest getting at least the TTRulez_AIMod, so that your lance mates are somewhat useful
And max tonnage, it seems. HotIS missions escalate quickly.
Hazing of the Weak Pt. 1: 265/270 tons (easy peazy)
Hazing of the Weak Pt. 2: 265/315 tons (not even going to try it yet)
I have an Archer 2R and a Warhammer 6R from the campaign, plus a handful of 65-ton mechs. But I'm having trouble finding anything over 60 tons. Killed a Marauder and a few Cataphracts, but didn't have enough salvage shares to claim any of them.
Also, I'm trying to decide between medium lasers and medium pulse lasers. On paper, medium lasers seem better...

IMO mech salvage is one of the biggest flaws that mods fix. Being able to salvage parts of a mech and assemble them should've been vanilla.
It's been a long while since I have played vanilla, but from what I recall pulse lasers and other high heat weapons are kinda gimped due to the fact that there are no heat sink kits.
It suffers from Skyrim syndrome. Modded - it's very good. But modding it pretty much rips the game apart and replaces it's innards. Vanilla it's so barebones you can see mech models doing generic unreal engine lipsync during cutscenes in 1.0 (and maybe even now, haven't checked). So by buying it, you're enabling company that does no justice to IP to continue to do so, while relying on community work to make it worthwhile. At some point it might be more productive to not buy it, let russ drink himself to early grave and hope IP goes to more competent developer (MW:LL never forget).
Although that deviantart dude PGI hired to redo the models back in MW:O days can do no wrong in my book. All my mental images of mechs have been replaced by his work and whenever I see originals on sarna I just frown.
Their rights to mechwarrior™ have already lapsed back in 2020, it was the whole reason for the early release and people in the know understood that but it's been three years and all i noticed are unfucked spawns and reworked intro that made even less sense.
Iglesias is indeed a god, his catapult made me preorder MWO.

Acquired some good assault mechs recently, including a Zeus and an Awesome. Crappy Awesome variant, bought an AWS-8Q the moment I saw it. Have a Cyclops in cold storage.
Been doing a bunch of HotIS missions, got the hero Archer, Dragon, and Rifleman. I've been comfortable doing regular missions around low-40s difficulty, and special missions around 60 difficulty.
Took the Marauder, Warhammer, Zeus, and Awesome out for a stroll in a difficulty 75 warzone. It went quite well! Legged 2 Black Knights, but couldn't salvage either one due to lack of shares, guh. Got some decent weapons though.

Cyclops has been a mainstay of my lance for a while now. Finally found a Black Knight and made that my main ride for a while (3x LL, 4x ML). Also found a Stalker with a Guardian ECM, so of course that needs to be in the lance (mix of LRM-15 + Art IV, LL, ML). Also scored a Highlander! Swap out the autocannon for a Gauss Rifle and now we're cooking with gas. Picked up several more Banshee and Stalker variants, haven't bothered to fit them or try out most of them. Stalker 3F is fit the same way as my HBS Battletech playthroughs: 4x SRM6, 2x LL, and MLs. That and the ARC-AGC together would be quite the storm of SRMs.
Did some more campaign missions, got the King Crab KGC-000...and was immediately disappointed with the weapon loadout. Two AC/20s, a LL, and a LRM-20? That's it? Took it out for a stroll on the HotIS mission "X Marks the Spot Pt. 4" and had a blast blapping everything and tanking everything. Got the Corsair (that's an odd 'Mech). Didn't like the slow projectiles on the King Crab, so I swapped to AC-10s...and then realized I had some tier 5 LBX 10 slug guns, which are superior, so I fit those. Works great.
Did "Bring Her Home Pt. 4" but cored the Marauder II too quickly, so I couldn't salvage it. Decided not to redo the mission just to try to get it again.
Went back to doing campaign missions and they're much easier, now that I have good 'Mechs and good lancemates with 59-60 skillpoints. The Comstar mission with the tank spam was ridiculous...and very fun. Killed the Comstar dude, but did not get the Annihilator. Nightstar acquired.
Current 'Mechs:
Lancemates need to pull their weight, smdh.

Campaign completed.
Final mission lance was King Crab, Atlas, Nightstar, and Stalker. Went well for the first few waves, then it all went to hell in the final wave. My three lancemates all went down (2 injured, 1 dead) and I basically ran away when the timer ran out.
Did you know that with HitIS, you can get a free SLDF Wolverine if you go to the Valentina system? Didn't find this out until yesterday.

Mechwarrior 6 should be announced this year: https://www.thegamer.com/mechwarrior-6-announced/
Raselhague DLC comes out tomorrow, along with AI improvements among other things.

In the midst of my second playthrough. Some missions which were horrible the first time are a cakewalk now. With a totally new assortment of 'Mechs, the Black Inferno refinery mission and Eyes on Democracy Pt. 2 were completed on the first try with modest damage to my lance. Long range weapons FTW!
These AI improvements are very welcome, as pathfinding has been greatly improved and 'Mechs don't walk backwards nearly as much. However, with NPCs firing LRMs more, my lance's Archer went from being ignored to being primaried.
Oh, and a BLK-6-KNT with BAP, 3x LL-SB, and 4x ML-SB is absolutely amazing. I just pick a limb at long range and it gets deleted. Concentrated firepower also makes short work of circle-strafing 'Mechs.
Something I do not appreciate is the increased frequency of Orions spawning as late-mission enemies. Had one mission where my lance was fairly banged up and the AI brought in three successive waves of Orion pairs. Not cool.
