This pitch is going to be a nightmare on day 5.

250 will be a good first innings score, 220 is probably the minimum they need to post now Stokes has gone.

I'm not too upset about how ENG bowled yesterday. getting them out in the day with a lead of only 100 with a nice sunny batting day today *should* let us put 250-300 on, and set them a nice day 5 score.

I'm fully expecting a collapse though, so will check in after lunch to see how bad it looks

*hopefully* at least one of these two can put their foot down now and punish some tired bowling.
I'm heading away from the radio for a bit, don't let them collapse pls.

Not much point in this test match considering the forecast. The cynic in me thinks they've chosen to have these two tests at Old Trafford so they can bump it off the calendar in more 'important' series.

Old Trafford is a fucking great venue i cant understand why they wouldn't want to go there for big test series. Having fucking Riverside ground with 15k supporters over the second largest stadium in the country, that is always filled is mindboggling

England don't win there much and it always rains.

It is definitely the last Wisden Trophy Series match. Shame we can't bat tho.

Very negative move by the West Indies to bowl first I think

I'm happy for Pope getting sum runs because he looks very good and one for the future but his and Buttler's partnership is hiding some real weaknesses in the selection. They want 5 bowlers but that leaves the batting compromised especially as they want Broad and Anderson playing, so they bring in Bess as an allrounder rather than Leach as a specialist spinner against the right handers. It means we end up with three bowling 'all-rounders' at 7,8,9 which are very exposed to good bowling.

Stokes' injury forced their hand in dropping a batsmen. I don't think it's a long term worry, just an action out of short term necessity.

I am so so so so happy that Cricket is back on the radio.
First a cracking Wi series where they worked tirelessly in really weird ass conditions, to get a series finale in "perfect englis conditions" and conducted themselves with dignity while broad and Woakes put them away, now a nice set of onedays followed by a Pakistan test series.

    We are truly blessed.

I think Ireland will be disappointed with their performance today.

IKR The comeback from 5/5 was good and all, but 25/5 is just not going to win you a game.
Unless you have Stokes (or Pope).
I'm genuinely excited about Pope. He look solid.

I really like this new Test top order. And I was impressed with Buttler when he had a chance to play himself in, I think his average is pushed down by his appearances with the tail where he is expected to score quickly and take risks. He definitely has the ability to play a more measured innings.

Yeah man me too. Listening to TMS Stat Man talk about their averages it's back to the head days of Straus/Cook or more for opening, or at least top 4 partnerships.
I don't know about you, i've listned to Top Order English collapses for decades, and the ones in the last year are weaksauce ! What is this 150/1 shit honestly ?

    What a crazy 4 days.

My real highlight of this summer's cricket has been the continues improvement in Isa Ghua's comentry. She's fast becoming my favourite.

Isa Guha will always be a soft spot for me for a fantastic spell of bowling in the last game I saw with my father before he passed.

It's going to be an interesting day, if we can get the last two out cheap 250 is doable. Their attack is strong but it's still only a 3 day old pitch and 250 just takes one player to get a century, however it feels like we are short of batting, I don't like the balance of the current side.

I get why they play Buttler, he can bat with the lower order, accelerate as we lose wickets and also brings flexibility to our batting, but his drops have cost the team 150-200 runs this game and you would have expected a specialist like Foakes to have taken 2 of those 3 chances reliably.
