The Republican Party refuses to support meaningful gun control measures, which means they’re forced to trot out what seem like increasingly ridiculous solutions to the nation’s epidemic of school shootings. They’ve suggested everything from bulletproof backpacks to turning educational institutions into heavily armed compounds. Rick Scott floated the death penalty as a deterrent on Monday, despite that school shooters — reportedly including the one who killed six people at the Covenant School in Nashville — are often prepared to die at the scene.

The reality is that Republicans are willing to live with school shootings so long as Americans are able to own high-powered semi-automatic killing machines. And if they have to pick between retaining that privilege and sparing children from violent death, they’ll pick the former. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) acknowledged this reality on Monday.

“We’re not going to fix it,” he told reporters.

i guess we then have widely different interpretation of reality Sacul, or more probably it might be that you missed the new addition that there was a third person using a similar but not identical username as her son to threaten with a school shooting. This was apparently redacted for "reasons" in the public police report, if the story is to be believed, and no i dint check all source material.

On Snapchat, users are able to have a display name and a username. A user can change their display name at any time, but the username will stay the same. The police report does not mention multiple accounts; it simply states what the display name was and what the username was. The memes and threatening direct messages came from the same account, according to the warrant service documents. Jillian Durkin, a spokesperson for the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office, told Motherboard: “I can confirm that per our investigation, there was only ONE account.”

The meme that Jones tweeted was not specifically mentioned in the police report at all, though several other memes about school shootings were mentioned in the report.

This lady sounds increasingly more and more like a grifter.

The police said multiple times that he had not been handcuffed and arrested, then cell phone video came out showing otherwise. Another detail was that the Snapchat username was similar to, but not identical to, the one used by her son. Police never said how they linked the two accounts.

I read through the article and VICE is taking the police report at face value, with seemingly no attempt to verify either the report or the mother's claims. Is the son guilty or innocent? I can't tell.
