There'll be a mode for that (game/movie/etc) or some other 'smart efficiency/rich contrast' setting. Hopefully controlled by monitor on-screen menu, and not some driver faffing.

I have just bought myself a nice LG 27" IPS display to replace a knackered, 7yo 23" monitor, and it's absolutely lovely.

Except for a thing. In POE, and maybe other games you can see the monitor visibly dimming a short time after getting into the game and running around.

Is this intended, or something that can be switched off. I want my beautiful sweet IPS colours

As daneel said, its usually game mode or some shit. Dick around in your settings and you'll find the culprit

Looking at a 4k 144hz monitor. Toss up between Acer Predator X27 and Asus ROG Swift PG27UQ. Leaning towards the Acer simply because it has less obnoxious "gamer aesthetics". Should I go on and do this or is it wiser to get a 1440p 144hz instead of a 4k?

Nothing currently can run a 4k screen @ 144hz.
And if I were to go for a monitor in this price class, I would spend the money instead on a Ultra Wide.

Yeah this is what I was thinking. I heard even SLI 2080s cant get 60fps in some games.

Ultrawide @ 100hz sufficient?

I've got a Samsung CF791 that has been absolutely phenomenal. For bonus points it's a freesync monitor that works with the new gsync compatibility mode shit thats been added to Nvidia's drivers.

Certainly not bleeding edge like Predator, but its about a grand cheaper.

I'm looking for a secondary screen to my ASUS PG279Q since I had to leave behind the couple Dells I used for this when I moved house. Requirements:
- IPS;
- cheap;
- 1440p;
- 27'';
- DP > HDMI > DVI inputs in order of importance;
- thin bezels;
- has to be able to rotate to portrait mode;
- can be 60Hz, no need for Freesync/GSync/whateversync.

Any ideas?

Pivot narrows it down to virtually no hits.
Only screen I found would be this, 32" @ 300euroish

VESA mount holes and a decent gas-spring arm (~£30) widens the options again considerably.

I think I'll go with a used PG279Q as I already have one and the price goes for around 360 quid. Not interested in anything larger than 27'', desk is 160cm long and 80cm deep and I'm not into VESA mounting and stuff, I like having the original base of the screen in place.
