Can they just cancel that ancient shit already? Oompah Loompas are retconned pygmies, for christ's sake.

Saw Mission Impossible, Dead Reckoning yesterday.
For me it was 10/10 movie. Story, tempo, flow of the movie was great.
Nothing felt forced or dead points. Every scene served a purpose.
The movie is VERY fellowship of the ring.
Just replace the blue Entity with Saurons eye.
And the final words at the end of the movie just makes it more apparent.
Why is it called earth, when it is mostly water???
It's Snyder. It'll be shit?!
We finally committed 4h to watch Zack Snyder's Justice League yesterday. I'm glad we did, it was quite good.
When nothing goes right, go left.
Watched the latest Indy today.
Given how lukewarm everything I had read was, I was surprised how much I liked it. It's a great send-off for everyone, imo. Sure, they had to work around his age, but none of the effects seem distractingly bad. At the very beginning there was a bit with de-aged Ford where the voice doesn't match, but everything else seems seamless.
Almost makes you forget the previous one. I'd rate them Crusade > Ark > Dial of Destiny > Temple of Doom > Crystal Skull.
I feel there's something about shitting on everything that comes out became a thing for content creators lately. It brings clicks I suppose, it's the new clickbait. "Here's why this thing sucks" basically. I saw a few 3-4 hours long critiques (playing in the background whilst I was wrestling woodworking stuff around the house) and they were pointing out the most irrelevant writing issues with Indy for example. FFS not everything has to be Shawnshank Redemption or Schindler's List.
Guns make the news, science doesn't.
You're not wrong.
Although I'd argue there's an arms race between content creators (Hollywood) and content creators (YT et al) going on. The former keeps making formulaic shows/movies, remakes of remakes of remakes or live action of everything animated of every money-printing thing they've got in stock. Or absolutely overdoing something new that had success (superhero). Rightfully annoyed with that development, the Youtubers then bash everything new regardless, even if a remake actually improves on the original or a formulaic movie is good-enough-popcorn stuff and better than other movies released at the same time.
It's with a lot of things lately. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground any longer. It's either brilliant or a pile of crab. Furthered by all the algorithms that reward click bait titles and the then ensuing flame wars in the comment sections ("engagement").FFS not everything has to be Shawnshank Redemption or Schindler's List.
Although there are channels that show critic can be done differently and still be successful, e.g. that Pitch Meeting guy.
Okay, I saw this today.
Overall, I'd say it was good, but not stellar. There was definitely some dramatic tension with the course of the war and the diplomatic meetings between Meir and Kissinger. It focuses heavily on the Egyptian theater of war and very little on the Golan Heights theater. For that, I would have to watch Valley of Tears. I can't speak for the historical accuracy of the portrayals, as I wasn't alive at the time.
Would I recommend it? Yes. Is it a must-see? No.
Watched the latest Mission Impossible. I've got to say, if I hadn't known what I'm in for I would have hated it. Tom Cruise in 100% Xenu's Saviour mode.
Also, Simon Pegg is aging hard.
Looks like typicalentertainment. Will watch it and not expect too much out of it. Let's wait and see if he can pull off to create a new franchise with it. They have ambitious plans:
It's a Star Wars movie that didn't happen and it shows. It's the first of two parts (with plans for a third film to make it a trilogy), and Snyder and the streaming giant hope the films will launch a new space opera franchise. There are already plans for a novelization of the film, a four-issue prequel comic, a narrative podcast, an animated series, and a four-player game for the Netflix gaming platform.
Source: https://arstechnica.com/culture/2023...child-of-fire/As we reported previously, years ago, director Zack Snyder had an idea for an epic Star Wars movie that he pitched to Lucasfilm. That project never panned out for a variety of reasons. But the idea continued to germinate until Netflix got on board. Apart from Star Wars, Snyder has said his influences include the films of Akira Kurosawa, especially Seven Samurai, and The Dirty Dozen.
It really is the right time to launch a contender to Star Wars tbh, if its only half decent it might actually steal the audiance from Disney. Star wars truly became a joke lately (as in 7,8,9 + everything except mandalorian/andor).
Its also nice to see some "original" content, im sick and tired of all the low effort on brand shit (Hi marvel and DC!)....
You perfectly summed up one half of the Ars comments. The other half is basically "It's Synder, it'll be dark, greyish, slo-mo shit"
Ralated to super hero movies, I will never understand why the studios keep invest in films with the same heroes, in the last three decades Superman or Batman have been played by at least 5-6 actors, I don't think anything new can be said about them. There were films that introduced new, lesser-known characters. Constatine with Keanu Reeves or Blade with Wesley Snipes were really decent, compared to what we have today, and a new series can be worked on.
They made a somewhat mediocre Constantine series back in 2014 that lasted one season, an animated Constantine: City of Demons that I never saw, and are supposedly in pre-production on a Constantine 2 movie with Reeves returning.
There was a season of "Blade: The Series" in 2006, also a Blade movie reboot currently scheduled for release on Nov 7 2025 but there are a lot of claims that it's been a shitshow of fail so far and I think they went as far as removing the senior executive in charge of it. It's release date has already slipped over a year.
