Tranquility (EVE) Influence Map
Life is absurd, but with a little effort we can make it completely ridiculous
I've tried almost every other available spaceship cockpit game available for VR and Valkyrie is the best of all, at least from the point of view of comfort. While Elite Dangerous and The House of the dying sun make my eyes feel tired after a few minutes of gameplay, Eve Valkyrie feels smoother even with all the maneuvering and dogfighting. Played 2 hours straight yesterday.
If, and I mean IF, I decided to go for this, would PS4 Pro add anything generally speaking and is that upgrade PC only (as I expect being NVIDIA and all)?
And would Sonys VR be ok here, I believe somewhere in this thread there was a post that mentioned that (back then) Sonys was the better choice for Valk?
That's a lot of NVIDIA cock-sucking in that announcement... why can't that run on all modern cards?
Because AMD doesn't currently offer a video card in any of those performance tiers. The RX 580 is GTX 1060 class; which is to say it offers performance similar to last-generation's high-end cards. Which is all fine and dandy, but those are the cards Valk's original graphics settings were designed against in the first place.
Anyhow, AFAIK there's nothing stopping you from enabling Ultra settings on an AMD card. It's just going to be slow on RX 580 cards. The new settings should do a lot better on RX Vega.

The announcement is basically word-bingo where you stick the word NVIDIA in front of a generic 3D rendering term. "NVIDIA lightning" "NVIDIA anti-aliasing" "NVIDIA shading". All of those things have existed for years or even decades. Sure, they've been slightly prettied up yet again, but doing that through a vendor-specific toolkit sounds extremely short-sighted. Especially when that vendor has a nasty reputation for doing this kind of thing over and over again for wholly anti-competitive and non-technical reasons. It's the hairworks debacle all over again. Letting yourself be used like that as a game company is just dumb IMHO.
Ultra mode starting at a 1070 is an extremely convenient coincidence btw, possibly precisely for the perceived reasons you mention.
They're not really features, you can do all those things with just DirectX. They're just lazy vendor-specific shortcuts that will never be 100% mirrored by another vendor, because they'll get a copyright infringement claim if they do.
For the record, I'm not even mad at NVIDIA, they're just being their usual scumbag self. I am somewhat mad at all game developers who get too far in bed with just one GPU vendor for no good reason, excluding a portion of their user base in the process.
IANAL no, but I was more talking about NVIDIA sticking NVIDIA in front of bloody NVIDIA anything so as soon as you try something similar or claim compatibility with that NVIDIA thing they'll go "hey now, that's our thing right there". Also they probably have more than enough budget to start "legally" harassing AMD big time so I'm assuming they'd rather just stay out of that one.
The thing about patents is that they are good for big guys to harass new small competitors out, but if two big companies decide to go at each others with patents and all that crap they both will just lose due to the huge costs of that litigation no matter what the end verdict is 10 years down the line.
So, anyone playing this or just a thread to talk about nvidia?
It's EVE related. Of course nobody plays it. We're here to shitpoast and complain, not play games..
