You can get lots of support points with it. 10k+ on command mods is realy nice.
Are there any more ships which give rather range but strength?

Fox M, t2 fed fighter but that's offence, so stuff like valk buff and 6k target painters

The Fox and Deimos 2 have command range bonuses in T2.
The Machete Type S and Phobos Aura have the command str bonus.
T3 command is complete shit across the board with all of them only having the cap use bonus for some reason.
